On February 25, 2016, after a seven week comment period and public hearing, th e Town Board adopted an updated town master plan (copy available below). The purpose of the plan is to help the Town attract and support desirable economic development without straining our infrastructure, provide additional housing opportunities for this new workforce, and still maintain the attractive qualities of town that we all enjoy. Read more what it is, why it matters, and the need for Marcy to plan.
New Development Regulations
The Town Board has approved new development regulations to take effect on January 1, 2017! A description of the proposed regulations, map, and a special edition of Marcy Matters describing the changes are all available online. Click here for details.
You can still sign up for email notices, or submit comments using the forms below (click links for forms). While we appreciate and review all comments, our focus now is on potential implementation measures - regulations. policy, and Town actions to advance the objectives of the plan. We have also created a special Facebook page for this project (and you do not have to be a Facebook user to see it) with some short articles and other information.
In June we held three community open house meetings. The purpose of these meetings was to validate the current master plan direction and identify areas where community members would like revision or refinement. Read more about this here...
This process started early in 2015 after the town received a grant from NYSERDA to help with the effort to be better prepared for the likely growth associated with the Nanotechnology industry and other technology industries starting to grow in the area. We reviewed the 2009 town plan as a starting point, solicited public input, undertook some technical reviews and looked at the growth that was associated with the nano industry in Malta NY.
On August 20, it was officially announced that nano is coming to the Mohawk Valley. What does this mean for Marcy?
In November and December (2015) we held public hearings to discuss the draft update! The draft plan was refined based on these discussions and a Draft Master Plan Update was subitted to the Town Board on December 30, 2015, and accepted for review and comment. It was sent to over 40 neighboring municipalities and agencies for information and comment. A public hearing was held at 6:00 pm on February 4, 2016 (see that presentation here). In addition to some comments from the public at the hearing, seven written comments were received and considered by the town (available here) resulting in some additional refinements to the adopted plan.
Since then, the Town Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Codes Officers have been working with our consultants on a new consolidated set of development regulations to combine our current zoning and subdivision regulations..
